August 29th, 2009 by
On July 29, a twenty two year old aspiring model filed a lawsuit against renowned performer and multimillionaire Las Vegas fixture David Copperfield. The lawsuit is based on two year old claims of sexual assault by the star on his private Bahaman island.
From the onset Copperfield has denied the allegations, but the filing of the lawsuit has prompted a fierce response from the performer, who in a statement issued on August nineteen says he has been ‘forced’ to address the claims made by the woman. In his statement entitled ‘Copperfield Sets the Record Straight About Lawsuit’ Copperfield says the woman at the centre of the allegations has a ‘history of lying… [which she] continues in this lawsuit’.
The allegations centre over a three night visit the woman made to Copperfield’s Bahaman Island. She claims she was lured there and was shocked to find herself alone with the entertainer, whilst he say that ‘The facts are that there were more than twenty women and men on the island during her visit. The allegation that there was no one on the island to help her – even if she needed help – is preposterous’.
The David Copperfield assault charges have yet to be made into criminal charges by the U.S Attorney’s office, who were still deliberating if criminal charges were necessary at the time the lawsuit was filed. There will sure to be a lot of media interest in the developments of this case involving such a high profile star.
